         ISSUE/ITEM NO:

         SUBJECT:  Command and Control (PA Support)

         BACKGROUND: Recruitment of blood donors is a significant challenge  to  successful
         blood operations.  Media support is vital to this effort.

         DISCUSSION:  Public Affairs support to the Air Force Desert  Storm  Blood  Program
         was outstanding.     Preformatted  news  releases,  background   information,   and
         question/answer materials provided via USAF/SGHR were heavily  used  at  the  base
         level with great success.  This assistance was greatly appreciated.

         ACTION RECOMMENDED: Similar materials should be maintained and  regularly  updated
         for use on short notice, if required.  Continue such  initiatives  as  requirements
         dictate.
