					CRITITCAL ISSUE  
  
SUBJECT: FIRE PROTECTTON COMMUNICATIONS  
  
OBSERVATION: Fire protection personrel and equipment are dispatched  
to in-flight emergencies on runways and taxiways without adequate  
radio communications. This degrades their effectiveness and is a  
significant safety risk.  
  
ACTION: Working with TAC/BS-DE to procure needed radios. Manufacture  
can deliver within 40 hours of receiving order. Procurement action  
is now pending CENTAF/SC approval. SC insists on secure radio and is  
working an all inclusive package. Without adequate communications, we  
will not respond to aircraft fire with munitions on board unless we  
can positively confirm before hand that the weapon is not involved.
