the Army in every way that we could, so we gave them the
Viper ramp. They are parking up to 16 Chinooks on the Viper
ramp now. We also gave them Hog Ramp No. 1, spots 1 through
10, for helicopter parking.
The Army wanted to use the entire parallel taxiway to park
their helicopters on. However, we and Military Airlift
Command folks just did not want that to happen because it
just upsets the flow of the airfield and reduces the
productivity of the airfield when we dedicate taxiways to
parking lots. So far we have been able to convince the Army
that they can park on the asphalt that we have given them or
otherwise out of the dirt.
Major Humphreys, who is representing the G-3 Air for ARCENT
[Army Forces Central Command] is the point of contact. His
job is to find parking for 900 Army aircraft. The French
Air Force is negotiating separately with the Saudis for
parking areas, and the Saudis are being inundated with
requests for parking areas. I have personally tried to
remove myself as the middle man between the Army and the
Saudi Government, really just trying to protect the Air
Force interests at this point, while also operating an
organized, highly productive airfield. So far, Major
Humphreys is working directly with the Saudis to acquire
parking spaces.
(END SIDE 1, TAPE 1)

M: Today is the llth; maybe about the 6th of March they started
to return and began the discussions about ramp space.
