29/30 JAN 91...SHIFT B...CONTINUED

0930 Meeting Information (Mad Pollock/SG). Problem: The base's bulk water
supplies for showers and make up for the reverse osmosis machines
(ROPIE's) that produce drinking water come from a well in North Al
           Khar;. [(b)(l) sec 3.4 (b)(6)]
located approximately 17km east of the south end of the
runway. In any event, the testing of the 26 or so bulk water transports
that are coming in daily are using up the M-272 test kits at an alarming
rate [(b)(1)sec 3.4(b)(5)] CENTAF/SG advised there may not be any
more loose in theatre. 2 were obtained at the 56th in Riyadh; 4 more
are coming in from Thumrait, 10 were put on order when the problem was
first realized on 21 Jan. At that time we thought we could conserve the
kits through composit sampling. Apparently the danger there is sampling
too dilute a sample for a positive test. [(b)(1)sec 3.4(b)(1)]

Solution: CE to push CENTAF to get letter to use the base water plant
almost exclusively as that source would be secured and fewer augmentees
could be used to drive the shorter distance. Thus only one sample per
day would be required. The individual trucks, apparently 3 per day that
are needed for the ROPIE unit that came from Al Khari, could also be
done individually. Thus total use would be 4 M-272 tests per day.
