		- CENTAF/DE to be a receiving team. The majority of
deployed units were on their own when they hit the
		 ground (from the E&S perspective).

	 P. TSgt Huber was quickly spotted as our expert on
water and water systems -- obviously of critical
interest especially to this AOR where it's so hot
and dry. He's a results oriented manager and
		 technician.

	Q. Capt Byer and MSgt Geiss taught me to use the
Contingency Reference Book produced by the 480th
		 Reconnaissance Technical Group Langley AFB,
These books have useful data about AOR airfields
and other intelligence data. We were regularly
using these books to answer CENTAF/DO questions on
		 airfield, taxiways and apron capacity.

	R. AFLC-LSG/DE officers have done a lot to assist
Desert Shield. Before we CENTAF/DE folks arrived
the LSG/DE engineers assisted by getting and
passing information to CENTAF Forward and to the
Battle Staff. They did site surveys and made
contact with Prime Beef and RIBS teams. They were
classified as "non combatants" in their peacetime
permanent party role here. They took it upon
themselves to offer their expertise to assist in
build-up and beddown efforts of Operation Desert
Shield. (I drafted a Letter of Commendation to
them from Col Rotbenberg,) They continued to
provide significant support to Desert Shield.
Their input will be an important part of our unit
		 history.
