Q: What were General Powell's objections? Was it political in
nature, or the fact that he was afraid they would make the
armed forces look bad?
H: I think he has legitimate concern about broader aspects of
the war than just fighting; you know, innocents being
killed.
Q: It's lucky they were downwind from Baghdad.
H: Yes. But I really don't think they spread that much.
Afterwards I was always listening. I wasn't asking
questions; I was always listening. Were there a lot of
casualties from those attacks? I never heard of any other
than some guards that were killed in that.
Q: Can You characterize Secretary Cheney's and General Powell's
attitudes toward the offensive air campaign?
H: I think Secretary Cheney was supportive because it made
sense to him. I think General Powell was supportive but
