354 NBC SURVIVABILITY BRANCH INFO LETTER

      1. A base siren system has been installed. Some testing of the sirens is
      necessary. We will make every effort to inform you of these tests. The system
      will warn us of three different hazards: Alarm Red Air Attack - One minute
      continuous wavering Tone, Alarm Black - One minute intermittent (one second
      on, one second off) Tone, Ground attack - One minute combination of wavering
      and solid tones. NBC Survivability will demonstrate These Tones To all units
      during orientation training classes using  portable system. Visual Aids are
      also Being distributed.

      2. Inspect your protective mask weekly. Annotate these inspections on  DD
      Form 1574, Yellow Serviceability Tag. Check your unit for the listing of
      serviceable lot numbers of The M13A2 (green ringed) filters. Change filters
      when directed by the commander, and once the filters have been changed, annotate
      the date in The remarks section of the DD Form 1574. 

      3. Inspect the packaged Groundcrew Ensemble (GCE). If the package is torn,
      reseal it with a piece of durable tape (duct). Do not open the package and
      try on the ensemble. Leave all ensembles in the sealed packages until ready
      to use 1n a chemical environment. Know where your bag is located, not just
      where your units bags are.

      4. Inspect your M258A1 decontamination Kits monthly. Ensure that all kits
      are kept out of direct sunlight and stored in a reasonably coot environment.
      Check The #2 packet for swelling and broken ampoules.

      5. All personnel must ensure that they have  C-1 bag. See your unit for the
      required contents. In addition to the required items, place your wet weather
      gear from your "A" bag (preferably n poncho) into your handcarry bag. Your
      unit can help with the storage location.

      6. During contingency involving the wear of the GCE and its components, you
      must drink plenty of water. Due to heat build-up and the loss of body fluids
      (dehydration), wateris essential in the prevention of heat exhaustion.
