doctrine. Based on projected casualty figures it was apparent that
the timely and accurate reporting of deaths and casualties would be
difficult. The S-1 section contacted the 502th PSC and worked
extensively with them on this issue. In part as a result of our
collaboration, the Psc pursued the issue up the command structure
and a decision to place LNO's at strategic points along the
evacuation chain throughout the theater was made.
Once the decision was made, the 502nd PSC consulted with us and
we jointly worked out a plan which placed four LNO's at each EAC
level evacuation hospital, two at MBA and one at the theater
Graves Registration unit. This action served as a safety net. It
ensured that all casualties would in fact be reported even if the
transaction was omitted earlier in the treatment through the medical
        chain.

Morale. Morale within the command remained relatively high
throughout its deployment at KKMC. Even though some units were
establishing their position under adverse conditions, the individual
soldier sensed the urgency and importance of the medical mission of
        the command.
The several days of rain and deep mud adversely affected the
quarters and personal equipment of many individuals, Despite the
personal inconvenience and the loss or damage to personal effects,
the individual soldiers remained committed to establishing the
        hospitals and patient evacuation system.
A testament to the professionalism and espirit de corps of the
individual soldiers of this command was found in the simple fact
that in four weeks they turned empty fields into fully operational
Evacuation Hospitals as well as a Medical Battalion that provided
        patient transportation/evacuation.
 within the command, there
were no court martials during the period of 21 December 1990 thru 23
March 1991. The number of Article 15's issued was nineteen, or less
than one percent of the entire command.

command Relationships. Being located at KKMC, the 803d Medical
Group found itse 42akm from its higher HQ (3rd MEDCOM). That
distance posed several difficulties. First, it took between 5
1/2 to 6 hours to drive between units. second, C-130 flights were
frequently altered as war priorities changed causing frequent
cancellations. Third, Riyadh was out of UH-1 helicopter range, and
fourth, phones were frequently out of service especially early in
the Unit's deployment. The result of all this was a level of
        isolation.
To offset the problem to some extent, the Group fostered a
close association with the 22nd SUPCOM based at KKMC. We were
supporting them for their EAC medical support while we needed them
        for G-1, G-2, G-4, G-6 and other ancillary support.
