Unit: ARCENT

Parent Organzation: CENTCOM

The tactical mobility and deployability of hospital units will
not be improved. The 30-bed MASH will not be equipped with
DEPMEDS, but the tactical mobility of the unit is suspect. The
CSH will be a very capable unit, but it will not be able to move
quickly to support operations. The basis of allocation for the
MASH is only two per corps, which probably does not provide
enough mobile hospitalization to a corps.

          RECOMMENDATIONS:

             a. Department of the Army (DA) and the Office of the Surgeon
General (OTSG) should review the hospital structure in MF2K
before converting current hospital structure to MF2K. The review
should validate the basis of allocation of the MASH, ensure the
MASH is 100 percent mobile and improve the mobility of the CSH.

             b. DA and OTSG should resource the number of MASHs and
surgical squads required to support a contingency corps as soon
as the requirement has been validated.

             c. OTSG and AHS should review hospital unit TOEs to ensure
the units have sufficient fuel and water storage capacity.

             d. OTSG and AHS should review hospital unit TOEs to ensure
the units have sufficient quantity and capacity in materials
          handling equipment.

             0. DA should include AMEDD movement requirements in planning
acquisition of the Palletized Loading System (PLS).
