WEEKLY REPORT OF 20JANQI
PROM: SPC NELMS, SPS VETERINARY SUPPORT HOSPITAL, XHAMIS
SEQUENCE NUMBER:' 2
MAJOR SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES:
Veterinary equipment Arrived on 15JAN91. I set up clinic and began
running sick calls. As of 20JAN91, 12 dogs have had phy.5ic@l,, exams; urinalygis
was done on all 18 dogs and 5 fecal8 were performed, two results were positive
for hookworms. I am getting gtool samples from the other dogs for fecal
analysis. Urinalysis revealed most dogs are slightly dehydrated (dark, opaque
urine with strong odor), with large amounts of protien and high pH. Average
specific gravity was between 1.050-1.060.
Daily routine consists of feeding dogs, and doing daily checks and
treatments. Lab work is performed as needed and the appropriate paperwork is
completed. The ODS Military Working Dog Data Sheets are almost finished and I
will forward them to the 320th Vet HQ once they are completed.
We are having a small infestation of ticks due to the areas the dogs are
patrolling. The handlers are very aware of this problem and are doing closer
checks of their animals. I have no dip or spray available to me. I'm
requesting enough dip for all 18 dogs.
As I stated in my last report, I have six dogs overdue for
rabies/distemper vaccinations. A refrigerator has been obtained for the clinic
and vaccine can be sent at earliest possible date.
SUPPLY REQUEST:
Strongid-T or other de-worm medication
Efa-Z Plus diet supplement for dermatoses
Flea and tick spray and/or dip
Efa-Z Plus is given to four dogs as part of daily Tx. This treatment was
prescribed by a veterinarian for severe coat and skin problems. Supply is very
low.
MAJOR PROBLEMS:

Animal has lick granuloma on left rear leg since 13DECQO. Sore has
progressively gotten worse. Animal is limping sl4@-,htly, and sore @@s red and
oozing. Sore is cleaned daily with hydrogen peroxide and a.'Iight application
of Dermacool is applied. The sore is covered with a sterile gauze pad and
bandaged. Animal hag been placed on limited duty. Animal has poor appetite and
is sometimes lethargic. Temperature is normal. Will monitor condition.
ROY 172N MALE 3 YEARS OLD
Animal consistently has bloody tail and kennel from repeatedly beating tail on
the aides of kennel. The lesion on his tail involves the entire tip and a
small portion below the tip. I was advised to remove the kennel from the dog's
area and to inject Iml. Methyl Trednisolone into the area near lesion.
However, this medication could not be procured. Checking with a veterinarian,
I obtained permission to treat lesion with a topical
Tx.-Vioform cream applied SID.
