            3. INTELLIGENCE/OPERATIONS

                A. INTELLIGENCE

Daily operations and intel brief ings were conducted in the
briefing room at the 244th S2/3 section. The intel portion was
given by SFC Perillo from January 17 until January 30 1991 when SFC
Sackel assumed responsibility. Information which was disseminated
to the subordinate commanders or their representative at these
briefings was obtained in the following ways:
                      1. Distribution of daily ARCENT Intsum from the 513th MI
            Battalion.
                      2. Distribution of daily SITREP from MEDCOM.
                      3. Attendance at ARCENT G3 briefings.

Significant information would be gathered from these sources,
and appropriately posted to the Situation Map. Following this, the
subordinate commanders would be briefed daily. The information
was accurate, concise and provided in a timely manner. it
appeared, at times, however, as though CNN had some of the
information before it was provided at our briefings. This was due
to the Army's policy of not publishing unconfirmed information.

At 0300 hours Saudi time of January 17 Operation Desert Storm
began. Intel highlights are as follows:

Jan 18: Iraq launches 7 conventional SCUDs at Israel. Patriot
