                 S.LU)Drivera will wear goggles when driving with the
             windshields down.

             intermittent noise above '140 decibels may result in hearing
             loss. Soldiers will wear hearing
             protection in these environments.

             7,U CREW REST FOR DRIVERS:

                 a.U Commanders must monitor and enforce crew rest
             policies; the following guidelines will be adhered to:
                      (1)LU)Convoy drivers should be provided 8 hours of
             rest for each 10 hours of driving within a 24 hour time
             period. (rAW AR 385-55, para 2-7: AR 55-29, para 6c: FM
             21-305. pg. 9-5).

                      (2)U)Convoy commanders should brief all drivers/
             assistant driverg/senior occupants prior to the march on
             proper speed, safe following distance. route. rest periods.
             weather conditions and the senior occupant's responsibility
             for the safe operation of the vehicle. (IAW AR 55-29).

                      (3)UODuring nigbt/limited visibility (ie. dense fog.
             blowing sand, etc.) commanders should evaluate the urgency of
             the mission and consider waiting for visibility to Improve
             before dispatching vehicles/convoys.
                 b.LW Commanders must monitor and enforce sleep plans.
             After 48 to 72 hours without sleep, soldiers become
             militarily ineffective. So. the beat measure against fatigue
             is 'SLEEP'.

             8.Lu) LOCAL DRIVING PRACTICES:

                 a.@U@Provide instruction in local driving customs.and
             practices.

                 b.LWStregg the need for constant alertness and to always
s to do the unexpected. Accident
             experience shows local drivers to be very unpredictable.
             often showing complete disregard to traffic signs and
             signals. turning left from the right lane or right from the
             left lane, and making U-turng in intersections. So, *STAY
             ALERT AND STAY ALIVE'. (IAW MURPHY'$ LAW)
                 c.U Drive defensive and include the above guidance in
             pre-march briefings.
