     MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION


     SUBJECT: Medical Evacuation of Personnel



     1. Commanders must ensure the soldiers they evacuate through medical
     channels, either ground or air, have only the appropriate equipment
     with them.

     2. No weapons (M-16, Bayonet, Knives, Ammunition) are to accompany
     the e@acuee. Additionally, no sensitive items (CE(iIs,-OPLANS, Right
     Vision Devices, etc.) are to accompany the evacLteL-.
     3. Aowever, the soldier must take his protective mask and chemical
     protective overgarments (to include Atropine). They should also take
     items for their personal care if they are to be hospitalized (shaving
     gear, underclothing, etc.).

     4. In times of emergency weapons and sensitive  items must be sect-%red
     by the unit and all chemical protective equipment evacuated with the
     soldier. At a later time personal items should follow. During
     routine admissions, the soldier should be inspected by his chain of
     command for compliance with paragraphs 2 and 3, this memorandum.

     5. Hospitals simply do not have the assets or mission to secure the
     items and frequently the soldier is in no position to look after eitra
     gear.
