RETROGRADE AND REDEPLOYMENT
With the tremendous build up of forces in Saudi Arabia
spanning over five months, it was no surprise that redeployment
back to Ft. Stewart would not be as quick as the defeat of Iraq.
Safety was the highest priority in the redeployment period, and the
92nd returned from Iraq with everyone alive and in good spirits.
Once the battalion received the retrograde order from 20th Engineer
Brigade, the 92nd began packing and cleaning equipment. Bravo
Company constructed a vehicle wash rack for vehicle cleaning as the
unit waited for the call to the Redeployment Assembly Area (RAA) in
Dhahran. The external haul support from corps became available an4T
the -battalion's heavy equipment was sent to the RAA on 2 April. An
advance party was sent to guard and'clean the equipment.
The 92nd established its RAA in the MABCO facility outside of
Dhahran. On 9 April 1991, the @2nd main body convoyed to MABCO and
continued to prepare for redeployment. A rear detachment of 50
soldiers was established, 36 to prepare equipment for custo=/USDA
inspection and the loading of ships, and 14 to be temporarily
attached to lst COSCOM in support of the Port Support Activity
(PSA). The 92nd's equipment was staged from 9 - 18 April. The
equipment was later loaded on 10 ships, and reached the United
States at various ports from 10 May to 20 June.(See Annex D)
On 13 April 1991, the 92nd, less its rear detachment, moved
