LOG PLANS
Base camp. Rations were initially drawn out of Theater
Support Supplies KKMC. This required three convoys per week.
Rations were picked up and stored in refrigerated vans. Some
bottled water and MREs were stockpiled in the battalion S-4 yard to
ensure the UBL was readily available for the ground attack.
Non-potable water was consumed at a rate of 200 gallons per day
when showers were operating at a full capacity. Each unit used 'its
water distributors to pick up water twice weekly from the class I
(water) point. Class III bulk (fuel) was issued by the battalion
9-4 from a central point located in the proximity of the motorpool.
Class V was tightly controlled and issued only upon direction of
the Battalion Commander.
The issue of other supplies was done from the S-4 office/tent
and S-4 yard. Vehicles were required to stop prior to entering the
S-4 yard, drivers dismounted and waited for clearance from the 9-4
NCOIC prior to entering the S-4 yard to pick up supplies. The
ration cycle was A-M-T. The T-ration was the ideal meal, as it
allowed a hot meal to be served to the soldier every day during the
deployment.
Offensive phase. The battalion received support from the 3rd
Armored Division's LOG task force (LTFL) during the ground attack.
Supplies which were not available from the 3AD were forwarded from
the base camp at Log Base Echo. Supplies were sent to the forward
units using logistical packages (logpacs). They consisted mainly
