(,'hommg lisp@ The heat from fire trenches is less than
that from oil-well fires. Under optfrmim burn conditions, lethal heat may
radiate out approximately 100 meters (300 feet). If not continuously fueled,
as the level of oil drops within the trench, the vertical sides will reduce
horizontal radiation, making the trench more approachable for extinguishing.
This most likely will occur after the light ends and soma middle distillates are
burned off and the oil level drops within the trench.
