         Sunmiary of 312d ACR, I Troop, 1—14 Battle Damage Incident:
         
             a.  Tactical Situation: The troop was transitioning from a
         movement to contact mission to a screen mission. Earlier in the
         day the troop had engaged an Iraqi tank battalion (—) equipped
         with T—72's. The troops orientation was East. The troop's
         disposition is shown at end 1.
         
             b.  Enemy Situation: The troop received a spot report, by
         radio, that seven Iraqi T-72's were counter-attacking toward the
         troop from Northeast to Southwest. This report was confirmed
         when scouts from 3d Platoon observed the enemy tanks. See end
         1.
         
             c.  Terrain and Environment: Gently rolling sand ground
         surf ace. The sandstorm which had occurred earlier in the day had
         subsided to the point where visibility had returned to normal.
         Visibility was 400-500 meters, without night vision devices, as
         it grew dark. Thermal sight performance was not degraded.
         Date/time was 261830 (local) Feb 91.
         
             d.  Casualty Data:
         
                 Cl) Bradley Commander blown out of hatch. Medevaced,
         not seriously injured.
         
                 C2) Gunner remained in turret; burned; medevaced;
         seriously injured.
         
                 ~3) Driver blown out of hatch; medevaced; seriously
         injured.
         
                 (4) Observe/Scout exited vehicle; treated and returned
         to duty; not seriously injured.
         
             e.  Vehicle Performance: Hull Halon fire extinguisher bottle
         blown out of bracket by force of TOW detonation, but the
         extinguisher appeared to operate properly. an~unition stowed in
         ready rack caught fire immediately.
         
             f.  Material Deficiencies. Contributing to
         misidentification: none in so far as is known.
