LAST RITES
I was called with the Bn Surgeon to the side of a severely
wounded EPW. We put him on the hood of an MI Si to transport to
the battalion aide station. As the Chaplain crawled on the hoo~
as well to hold the EPW from falling.
The cross I wore fell out of `fly T-shirt. The EPW said
`Christian"?
`Yes' I said, `Byzantine Catholi~'.
He smiled and said, `Chaldean Catholic'.
I gave him last rites on the hood of a jeep goinci across the
desert. His name was Jamil.
