      Immediately following the cessation of -offensive operation1
four members of the 1st ~arine Division Band approached their
Battalion Commander.   The Band had not seen their musical
instruments in two months.   They had the loo~ ~f what this mission
had been for six months    *Crunts.' Amid-the devastation and
destruction 9f Kuwait International Airport ~they as iced for
permission to sp~aic to the Battalion~C.O.  They had something for
him.   Permission was granted by thE Battalion Sergeant ~a~or.
T.~ese superb ~arines in perfect harmony sang the National Anthem.
As they completed the last note there was complete silence.   No
one could cheer as we would at a sporting event.   It is difficult
to cheer when you are crying tears of ~oy.    It was one of the most
moving experiences -of their commander's life.
