Families approached the ~arines as if their presence in the city was an anticipated event. The warmth in each smile, handshake, greeting added a new dimension to the purpose of our arrival nearly seven months ago. The ultimate expression of gratitude and acceptance' occurred whcn fami1ies.w~uld hand over their small children to Marines to take a picture. The band of friendship was instantaneous. In one occasion, a small 2 year old boy, held by MSgt Thornton, leaned over to kiss him as he was coached by his mother.
