                 2. For Special Diagnostic Laboratories.
                        a: Anthrax. Acute serum (at least 3 ml) should be coffeci
           early as possible following onset of symptoms, and shipped frozen to a
           reference laboratory (see below). Convalescent samples should be obi
           from survivors and other members of the anacked unit 3-4 weeks later.
                        b: Botulinum toxin. Acute serum (at least 20 ml blood) s          )e
           collected as early as possible following onset of symptoms, and shippea        a
           to a reference laboratory (see below). Exposed persons who are not yt
           symptomatic should also be bled (20 ml of blood).
                        c: Staphylococcal Enterotoxins. Acute serum (3 ml) shou.
           collected as soon as possible following onset of symptoms. Exposed pt
           who are not yet symptomatic should also be bled (3 ml). Convalescent
           from survivors and non-affected unit members should be obtained 2-4 v
           later. Serum should be shipped frozen to a reference laboratory (see b(
                        d: Clostridium perfringens. Same as staphylococcal enter(

           above.



                 3. Autopsy Samples
                        AU tissue samples should be collected in duplicate aliquots:
           (25-50 gms) to freeze for microbiology/toxicology and one in formalin I
           histopathology. Organs sampled should include lung, mediastinal lympt
           spleen, and liver. Obvious lesions and adjascent normal tissue should b
           from affected areas in any organ.
