File: aabff_29.txtFEB 28 : DAY 43 - Today we are scaled back to only 8 lines. A four ship from the 10th and a four ship from the 33rd are scheduled to take off at 0620 this morning. The rest of the schedule is cancelled for the time being. We still have a 24 ship on two hour alert. - President Bush announced at 0600 this morning the cease fire in three hours. One shot fired by the Iraqis and we go in and obliterate them. It looks like the ground offensive will be over today, 100 hours after it began. - Today at the morning meeting I announced what we thought the next few days would bring, emphasizing to the folks to relax and savor the moment, yet not to let their guard down to the real terrorist threat. I have never been prouder of a group of indi- viduals in my life. Their pride and professionalism have brought us through the past seven months more victorious than anyone could have imagined or foreseen. Looks like the fat lady has sung. - The jets must possess a minumum of twenty plus hours phase time before they make the flight home. - All the jets have been configured for alert purposes. We will be on two hour status for the next few days until we find out if the conditions of the cease fire have been accepted or not. MAR 1: DAY 44 - We are looking at sending a glory package of two squadrons from the base back to Shaw as early as the 6th of March. One squadron will be a rainbow from the aviation package. - I have requested the AMU's take a look at the delayed discrep- ancies to see what must be accomplished immediately and what can wait until home station. - The next three days will be down days. The projected schedule for Monday is a 10 X 10 from each squadron. - The ceasefire has taken hold and the Iraqis have been broken. The war is over and the next few days will be full of parties and plans for the redeployment. - "GOD BLESS THE U.S.A."
