With the number of personnel rotating throughout the AOR, a computerized personnel data base was designed by the Riyadh AECE staff and implemented at the five hubs to track assigned ~ personnel. Initially, it was used primarily to monitor rotating ANG and AFRes personnel for redeployment to CONUS. It was later used to track personnel/element moves in support of the ground offensive. In addition, aircrew managers felled upon the system to determine duty schedules, crew availability and crew complement. (4) Director of Aeromedical Operations. The purpose of the DAO concept was to standardize aeromedical operating procedures at the five strategic hubs. To ensure smooth and expeditious handling, processing, and evacuation of casualties at the hubs, the various medical and aeromedical elements supporting the operations had to function in an integrated, well-coordinated manner. The DAO concept delineated relationships and outlined responsibilities to achieve that objective. The DAO served as the single focal point for coordinating/directing all aeromedical evacuation activities at each of the strategic hubs. DAO were tasked with the following responsibilities: (a) Exercise operational control over all elements at the hub which were directly involved in aeromedical evacuation operations. Those elements included: 1 Aeromedical Evacuation Control Element. 2 Aeromedical Staging Facility (ASF). 3 Mobile Aeromedical Staging Facility. 4 Aeromedical evacuation crews (both strategic and tactical). r:: ~ Patient reception element (may have been an Army clearing company/platoon, a Navy or Marine Corps collecting and clearing company, or a similar element from any component). (b) Ensure timely, comprehensive aeromedical mission support. Actions the DAO could take to facilitate this process included, but were not limited to the following: 1 Conduct regular meetings with personnel from each of the aeromedical evacuation supporting elements at the hub. The purpose of such meetings was to aid in problem solving and to facilitate timely and problem-free AE missions. 2 Serve as liaison with the base community and as a resource person for supporting AE operations;. 3 Ensure mission support activities were 10
