SUBJECT: DISCUSSION OF MEDICAL CONDITIONS INCLUDING DIARRHEA
Observations from 306th Strategic Wing Deployed, Al-Dhafra
Military Air Field, United Arab Emirates during the period 6-20
September 1990.
One of the first things you notice about Al-Dhafra,
Military Air Field, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the heat. As we
approached the airfield the temperature in the KC-135R aircraft
began to rise, it wasn's long before the temperature in the
aircraft was well above 100 degrees (it's usually -30 degree
hotter in camouflage KC-135 aircraft). After landing the boom
operator and the crew chiefs open the side hatches and the cargo
door to allow ventilation in the aircraft while taxing to the
cargo ramp in front of base operations (building 48) at Al-
Dhafra. This is where The 306SW tankers were parked. The sight
that greeted you after landing AL Al-Dhafra is not a barren waste
land, but modern buildings, and numerous vehicles. [(b)(1)sec3.4(b)(6)]
After the aircraft was secured everyone helped
to unload. Then they were driven to building 48 where the 306SW
deployed offices are located.
The 306SW deployed occupied three rooms on the second
floor of building 48. The primary room was the tanker operations
room (previously the UAE 5th Mirage Squadrons training officer's
