8 Aug (Contd)	(U) 48 F-15's from the 1st Tactical Fighter
			Wing, Langley AFB, Virginia, and 5 E-3B AWACS
			aircraft from the 552d Airborne warning and
			Control Wing, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, flew non-
			stop to bases in Saudi Arabia. Elements of the
			82d Airborne Division also began deploying on
			MAC aircraft to Saudi Arabia.

9 August 		(U) The UN Security Council, voting unani-
			mously, declared Iraq's annexation of Kuwait
			"null and void."

			(U) Iran denounced Iraq's illegal invasion of
			Kuwait.

10 August 	(U) President Bush announced that Iraqi
			vessels carrying oil would not be allowed to
			leave the Persian Gulf.

			(U) President Bush officially notified
			Congress that he had sent troops to defend
			Saudi Arabia, but he did not formally invoke
			the 1973 War Powers Act, maintaining that
			hostilities were not imminent. 

			(O) General Schwarzkopf asked JCS Chairman,
			General Colin L. Powell (Usa), to have the
			USAF begin planning a bombing campaign as a
			possible retaliatory option.
			
			(u) Meeting in Cairo, Egypt, twelve of 21
			Arab League members voted to send troops to
			Saudi Arabia.
			
10 August 	(u) Iraq ordered all foreign embassies in
			Kuwait to close and send diplomatic 
			personnel to Baghdad.
