10 August 	(U) Ramstein AB, Germany, received MAC stage
			crews in preparation for serving as an over
			flow airfield for MAC traffic operating from
			Rhein Main AB, Germany.
			
			(U) Zaragoza AB, Spain, designated an over
			flow airfield for MAC traffic operating out of
			Torrejon AB, Spain, received its first MAC
			stage crews.
			
				The U.S. Mission to NATO recommended the
			Secretary of State negotiate the move of two
			F-16 squadrons of the 401st Tactical Fighter
			Wing, based at Torrejon, to Turkey to send a
			"strong, reassuring signal" to Turkey on the
			U.S. and NATO commitment.(2)
			
				The U.S. Mission to NATO also advised the
			North Atlantic Committee of major U.S. deploy-
			ments to the gulf and assured alliance members
			the U.S. would provide notification of future
			deployments.
		
				Responding to a U.S. Commander in Chief,
			Europe (USCINCEUR) request, USAFE directed the
			52d Tactical Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem AB,
			Germany, (the first USAFE unit so directed),
			to ship precision munitions (800 AGM-88s and
			300 AGM-45s) to USCENTCOM.(4)

11 August		(U) Moroccan and Egyptian troops arrived in
			Saudi Arabia to augment U.S. and British
			forces.

			(U) Iraq forbade all foreigners to leave
			Kuwait.
			
				Secretary of State Baker asked the U.S.
			Mission to NATO to request expeditiously
			blanket authority to remove U.S. military
			personnel, equipment, and munitions from U.S.
			units assigned to NATO.
