(U) Zaragoza AB, Spain, designated an over flow airfield for MAC traffic operating out of Torrejon AB, Spain, received its first MAC stage crews. The U.S. Mission to NATO recommended the Secretary of State negotiate the move of two F-16 squadrons of the 401st Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Torrejon, to Turkey to send a "strong, reassuring signal" to Turkey on the U.S. and NATO commitment.(2) The U.S. Mission to NATO also advised the North Atlantic Committee of major U.S. deploy- ments to the gulf and assured alliance members the U.S. would provide notification of future deployments.
