SUBJECT:  1701AREFW(P) SUSPECTED FOODBORNE ILLNESS        


        MEMO FOR THE RECORD 25 Jan 91

        SUBJECT: Suspected Foodborne Illness, 1701 PREFW

        TO: Brig Gen Caruana 
        
        1. Only 1 case of gastroenteritis was treated at the 325TH TAC
        Hospital between 0700 and 1600 on 25 Jan 91. The outbreak is
        over. A total of 649 patients were seen and 54 were admitted.
        Three remain hospitalized. During the outbreak eight crew
        members were placed in a duty not including flying status.
        
        2. Box lunches provided by a contractor were incriminated.
        Microbiology results from food samples and confirmatory results
        of stool cultures are expected tomorrow. Preliminary stool
        cultare results  were negative.  A summary of  laboratory results 
        and statistical analysis will be provided  as soon as the
        information is available.
