            PERSONNEL ISSUE NO. 5 Need to Expedite MEB Process
            (SGHR ITEM NO. 125)
       
        DISCUSSION: Individuals with medically disqualifying conditions that existed
        prior to activation were activated, then boarded out. Process was lengthy in
        cases where the individual was a medical reservist. Personnel had to have an
        MEB before discharge and medical personnel do not normally have an MEB done at
        their unit of assignment, although this can be waived, which would seem to make
        sense in the case of reservists attached TDY.
       
        RECOMMENDATIONS: Develop plans to expedite the MEB process for personnel in
        this category.
       
        ACTIONS REQUIRED: Develop plans to expedite MEB process for personnel with
        disqualifying conditions that existed prior to entry into service.
       
        ACTIONS COMPLETED: Guidance has been amended to allow for expedited MEB
        process during contingencies as warranted per AFI 48-123 (old 160-43).
       
        STATUS: OPEN.
