areas of the city has experienced some odor probl,-mq.
Raw sewage by-pass to the sea certainly is highly visible
(depending on the time.of day, winds, mixing patterns density
stratification, tides, turbulence, etc.) and contributes to
odor in municipal areas which would prefer odor free
environments. (eg., beach front public recreational areas,
                 hotels, embassies,'businesses, and housing developments.)
it is important to realize,, however,, that the total
quantity of untreated sewage by-passes via the storin sewers
today (and projected for the near future) is less than the
quantity discharged when by-passing the Ardiya WWTP before the
war. Consecruently, the prewar odor i3atterns associated with
sewage by-lpasse-d to the sea a@e different in intensity and
location than those which are occurring today.
Visits to several selected pump stations reveal@d that
the odor control systems were not physically damaged ', but were
not in operation due to lack of chemicals or activated carbon.
