                                       COMMANDER'S NARRATIVE SUMMARY
                                                  (Continued)

            82D SIG: Submitted: 16 Noy 90

Cdr's Comments: Installation of the multichannel backbone system has gone
well. We have experienced some frequency interference but have btn able to
work around those problems. FM retrans test conducted yesterday proved that we
can talk from the DTAC to the DISCOM and AVN BDE locations through a retrans.
Map reconnaissance indicated that FM connectivity would not be possible. This
will allow us to retrans DIV CMD, O&I, A&L, and-the Controller nets.

Cdr's Comments: 618 EN Co(-) is busily preparing for its move to Ist Cav Div
area. A&B Plt will move from Ist Bde back under bn control in the warehouse
area. Division needs to determine who will occupy Panther Base with 3d Bde so
we can work out a Master Plan for their LSA. Safety Day was well worthwhile.

Cdr's Comments: We continue to be critically short of Arabic linguists. This
problem has been evident for several weeks but is more of a problem now owing
to return of 311th and 519th MI Bn linguists. At this point in time, we have
21 linguists on hand. We need over 50 to be able to accomplish our mission
            with high standards.

I of all
vehicles and equipment confirmed an excellent awareness of the importance of
properly functioning safety devices. Classes conducted in the afternoon by all
Batteries provided the troopers important safety information in the areas of
cold weather injury prevention, convoy safety, MEDEVAC procedures, and weapon
safety. Tomorrow the Battalion will conduct Organizational Day. Activities
will include a Battalion Run, Promotion/Awards Ceremony, competitive sports, a
cookout, and conclude with the Commanding General's address to the Battalion at
            1630 hrs.
