At 170145 Jav 1991 our ADFCO notified us that the
allies likd launched 100 Tomahawk missiles and that the air
campaign had begun. The air defense warning wts elevated
to yellow. The battalion's mission was to continue
providing air defense coverage over the divi5ion7s area of
operation, but i new dimension was added. Our early
warning system received its first of many tests, as a SoLtd
missile was launched in retaliation toward Dhahran

              DEFENSE NORTH OF THE -RAF,LINE (17 - 26 JAN 9i)

As the air campaign progressed, VII Corps continued to
build combat power, and the Division was ordered to move
further north of the 'rxpline Roxd to better positions to
block an Iraqi preemptive strike and support our allies to
our front. During this movement, Task Forces Hart and
Cofer (our logistical life lines for ammunition And fuel)
were formed and again the bA,Utalion provided assets to
protect these critical units. A VLtloan plttoon from both
A and C battery were provided to supply air defense ind
ground security for Task Forc@e's logistical bases and
              convoys.

After, VI'@ Corps achieved combat ready status, the
Syrian forces to our north shifted east and the Division
moved north with the mission to screen the border and
'timately feint an allied attack up the wadi. On 2A. Jan
              Lt.L

platoons from AD at Ft Hood. 'These soldiers immediately
replaced the three Stinger -beekms attached to D Battery,
whose soldiers were returned to their organic batteries.
The task organization for the battalion now Anci for the
