The first display of I Cav strength came with on
artillery raid. 4-5 ADA protected the IYILRS battalion and
gun batteries with tn Avenger platoon.
Berm Buster 1, conducted beyond the border, received
Stinger and Avenger coverage, positioned j@t-,t solttli of the

introduced 4-5 ADA into Iraqi territory as f-@ Battery
placed its Ist Stinger Section -Learn chiefs in armored
personnel carriers to cross the berm with I-F 2-'@- CRv.
distance traveled beyond the berm increased and 4-5 ADA
continued to move with the forward elements.
During the Bl@ickjack Brigade@s force recori, with -I'F
I-'-j, C Battery placed Stinger teams in armored vehicles in
support of three corflpiny 'Leaxms and employed -Lwo VLtlcAns of
its Second Platoon with A Corsiptny, the leid company 'Ceara
in zt diamond -formation. Once again, this configuration
would solidify the deception story as the lead @rinored
e attack, while providing xir
defense cove,-age against as yet unseen close air support
and attack helicopters. -rF 1-5 moved five miles into
Iv-aqi territory where they crime upon numerous Iraqi@
desiring 'to surrender. While they collected the EPWs they
received artillery fire and were hit with ground fire from

first and only /,,-5 ADA soldier killed by enemy fire. SSG

requesting MED-@-VAC, and extinguishing fires on he Vk-tlc.IT-i,
thus preventing further injuries to his squad and ULtf-i
