This problem was quickly corrected with help from
the N&V'al Forwara Laboratory b@introducinq graduated SO ml
vials to aid in the dilution. n additional-preventive step
was provided to the soldiers on checking ana reading the
smart tickets. All soldiers checked th&ir smart tick&ts to
ensure that there was a small pinhole in the middle of the
test ticket. This pinhole allowed the fluid to properly
distribute throughout the test ticket pa er. If this hol@
was not present, they were to discarg the ticket and use
another one. The soldi@rs were also received additional
instruction on the reading of the test spots. If the
reaction spot was not a brigfit red and filled ih completely
it was to be considered negative.
Although Biological detection was the rimary
missi6n@, the teams-used the-XM-21 as units or as the team
chiefs -dictated. Each XM-21 was utilized during the
specific vulnerability windows between 0100-0700 hours. The
teams collocated both systems within the same area of
operation, thus enhancing the capabilit and the utility to
t e supported unit. It was determined Through extensive use
that large armored vehicles would trigger a false positive.

worked together This problem was compounded by the earl
employment of the firi;t serial and the immediate employment
of the second.
