and the remaining equipment pallatized. A significant
challenge arose du6 to thb fact that there were no hazardous
car?o qualified personnel within the company. The pusher
uni provided no one for 3 days once equipment was ready to
be loaded. This caused significant loss of time ih the
ready for deployment sequence. All challenges concerning
equipment weie overcome @ith hard work and initiative.
                      (c) Supplies - Due to the new configuration of the
detachment', it war difficult to determine -the need for
specific supplies. Two types of lists were drawn, one for
rsonnel and one for the mli;sion. once these list were
9'reawn up, a search for the supplies was conducted. Due to
the lack' of deploying units--at Fort Lewis and the
deactivation of the Division significant supplies vtere not
available. The wartime ordering 6rocess (9BU Code) was not
established with the logistical facilities at our home
station thus inhibiting our detachment from receiving its
roper suptlies. An additional challenge arose when the
Detachment ried to fill a basic load of PLL. Since
considerable amounts of PLL had been diverted to operation
Desert Shield/Storm, there were severe shortages of tires,
oil, generators, and miscellaneous HUMMWV spare parts.
                  (d) Transportation - The initial information on flight
time Ana place Fdas inadequate. The detachment did not know
either th@ time or place of departure or arrival.
h(@) Maintenance - The only challenge posed was the
refurbis ing of seven M998s. These trucks h-ad been ear
 sitting in the motor
ool for seven months. All vehicles had to have a DS TI
@one by DS teams. These teams additionally came to the motor
ool t6 help our mechanics get these vehicles read@ for
Deployment. Due to the la&k of spare.tarts and addi ional
H s had to be cannibalized to g the other seven
             vehicles to standard.

                  (f) Higher Headquarters - U on alert notification, the
9th Chemical Company was in a transition period between
Brigades. Thii; &aused confusion on who exactly had the
responsibility for pushing the unit out. Purthermbre, the
detachment did not know who their higher headquarters would
be in country. As a result, proper- initial- coordination
between units could not be conducted to ease the transition
of the detachment to the AOR.
.(V) T@aining - Due to the short alert notification,
training tor those MOS specific soldiers was hindered
because of the division requirement for them to attend
mandatory training on M16A2 qualification, NBC tasks and
             chamber,-and basic-goldier skills. The CM/BIO training that
was received at Aberdeen had to broken dokn into two @hases
due to the lack of adequate personnel to fill the a lottea
slots. This increased ihe deployment date by two days.
