warning order to prepare to move to Kuwait to support injured
animals in the Kuwait City Zoo and at local dairies. On 4 March
MST B moved out for Kuwait City.

Early on the primary mission was to feed, water and clean up
after the animals. Many of the animals at the zoo had been shot
and eaten or left to die. Animals at both the Zoo and the dairy
were starving, dehydrated and living in filth. MST B drove water
trucks and carried food to the animals. They also procured
vehicles to remove dead animals from the Zoo and cleaned the hippo
and bear tanks which were seething bodies of feces and urine.

Minimal food inspection was required and consisted of receipt
inspections of A ration for the Wolf mobile and some operational
ration inspections at the Air Base and the Port. An EAC class I
point was established in early April on 6 ring road on the
outskirts of Kuwait City to support the troops located in and
around the Kuwait city area. Initial attempts to assist 7th Corps
units (3rd AD, Ist AD and ist ID) with veterinary support were
rejected as these units wanted to use their own veterinary assets,
resulting in the decision on 4 April that only one 9IR was required
to remain to support the KTO.

          NOTE:

Personnel attached to the 483rd were also stationed at Jeddah
and Riyadh but because they did not report to the Commander of the
483rd and did not submit reports or workload through the 483rd no
historical report for these areas can be completed. All reports
were submitted through the 320th EAC Vet HO.
