           HSBY-D, COL Johnston, 856-4322, (913)239-4322.

           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/11/91.

           4. (U) TITLE: SUMMARY - Phase I - DENTAC

           5. (U) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR DENTAC:

               a. In preparing lst ID (M) and either Fort Riley tenant
units for deployment, we encountered the following problems-

                   (1) UNIT ROSTERS: Units did not provide up-to-date
rosters prior to deployment. This caused numerous problems
because many soldiers we were looking for had transferred to
other units on Fort Riley or were no longer assigned. I+
cross-leveling took place, those moves were not reported.

                   (b) TREATMENT OF SOLDIERS: We had ample time and
resources available to treat soldiers of Fort Riley. However,
unit commanders did not ensure that soldiers reported to the
dental clinic in a timely manner. There was one incident in
which the DENTAC XO and clinic NCOIC had to pull four soldiers
from the departure airfield because the unit did not get them to
           the dental clinic.

@b. In processing mobilized reserve units, we had to compete
with the installation in obtaining buses to transport reserve
soldiers to and -From dental clinics.

                   (1) When cross-leveling took place, DENTAC was not
notified to ensure that the soldier had:

                       (a) a dental record

                       (b) a panographic x-ray

                       (c) was dentally -Fit (Class I or 2)

rs
through the dental clinic. I+ soldiers had dental problems, we
had a problem getting them back into the clinic +or treatment
           (competing with training requirements).

               (U) SUBJECT: NONE

               (U) INTEROPERABILITY: NONE

                                      UNCLASSIFIED
