Report from VII CORPS is as follows: There was a major
discrepancy between the report that Maj Cerri received from
the VII LNO team and what actually happened. TF 1-5 from Ist
Cav went accross border today. Initially this was to be a
demonstration. However, they ran into what was later
classified as a dug in plt of enemy supported by arty. Fire
fight ensued. TF 1-5 had two M2s hit. One by suspected
SABOT and one by arty. One Vulcan was destroyed by indirect
fire. One CEV throw a track as it tried to evac one of the
hit bradleys. 2 KIAs and about 6 WlAs are being reported by
VII. After the engagement the TF 1-5 backed off and called
s. The results of the A-10 engagement are assessed as
20 artillery pieces attacked and 10 tanks attacked. Official
BDA is to follow. The VII Corps LNO team only reported that
the TF had made contact and had called in CAS. Other items
that the VII CORPS reported as follows; - they will continue
to do berm cutting operations in their AO. TI[ey will
continue to conduct arty raids and they will move arty S. of
the barn to increase the range into Iraq. 2nd ACR is
continuing to minimize its electronic and movement signature.
Ist CAV will conduct cross flot operations with AH-64s and
will insert LRSDs tom. ist ID will need 3 days to prepare
the berm for eventual breech operations. VII is concerned
that they may not get the three days notice. The only log
concern that the LNO team reported in VII CORPS was a lack of
the third CPOG for the lst 11) who will do the breach of the
obstacles in zone.
