         (U) REFERENCE.
                         a. AR 165-1. Chaplain Activities in the US
         Army. 31 Aug 89   (U).

                         b. XVIII Abn Corps FSOP, 8 May 86 (U).

                         C. IST COSCOM FSOP. 30 June 88 (U).

         1. (U) Purpose. To provide guidance for the conduct of
         religious ministry.

         2. (U) Concept of Religious Ministry.

              (a) (U) All soldiers will receive essential religious
         ministry to include worship opportunities. religious ritea
         and sacraments, pastoral counseling. and pastoral visitation.

              (b) (U) The Ist COSCOM Chaplain will coordinate all
         religious ministry during the operation and will exercise
         technical supervision of all chaplains who are assigned or
         attached to units in the area of operation.

         3. (U) Concept of Operations. Religious support
         requirements will be bas-@d on the task force configuration.
         denominational coveraie, and replacement needs. Commanders
         of units not having an assigned chaplain will assign an
         officer to coordinate through their higher headquarters
         chaplain for religious support. Under the area coverage
         concept. Commanders will ensure that chaplains provide
         religious ministry to their primary unit of assignment and to
         adjacent units not assigned a chaplain.

              (a) (U) The initial battle phase will concentrate on
         nurturing the living: giving priority to units facing
         immediate combat.

              (b) (U) The immediate battle phase will concentrate on
         caring for casualties on the battle field. in aid stations
         and field hospitals. as the battle dictates.

              (c) (U) The concluding battle phase will concentrate on
         honoring the dead and consolation of the living.

   (d) (U) COSCOM Chaplain will coordinate with XVIII Abn
         Corps Chaplain for coordination with the Corps Surgeon and
         staff for mass casualty chaplain coverage at designated aid
         stations and field hospitals.
