OPERATION DESERT SHIELD - DEPLOYMENT TO SAUDI ARABIA

Headquartered at Fort Stewart, Georgia, the 92nd ECB (H) was a

FORSCOM battalion commanded by the Victory Brigade, 24th ID(Mech)

(see Annex C-1, Task Organization). The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait

on 2 August 1990, and the subsequent alert of the XVIII Airborne

Corps, began a period of intensive training and preparation for the

92nd. This included operating in an NBC environment, range firing

of individual and crew served weapons and the newly issued AT-4

antitank weapon, rear area security operations, field sanitation,

first aid and land navigation. Training was also conducted on

             mine-countermine operations and demolitions.

Many hours were spent on vehicle maintenance and equipment

loadout. Soldiers received vaccinations and updated soldier

readiness packets and Family Care Plans. The battalion completely

cleared and turned all real property back to the installation.

This included company orderly rooms and the battalion headquarters

             building.

During this time, the 92nd also supported deployment of the

24th ID (Mech) by conducting port, rail and convoy operations from

Ft. Stewart. Alpha Company ran the Port Support Activity (PSA)

along with personnel from the Ft. Stewart installation Directorate

of Logistics. Bravo Company supported the PSA effort and provided

crews for rail loadout and tiedown operations from Ft. Stewart.

Headquarters and Support Company (HSC) managed the divisional

intermediate staging area at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah,

Georgia, where vehicles were sent to await movement to the port,
