OPERATION DESERT STORM - SUPPORT TO VII CORPS

The 92nd ECB(H) was chopped from the XVIII Airborne Corps to

the VII Corps, the newly arriving heavy corps from Germany, an 1

January 1991. With two complete armored divisions and an armored

.cavalry regiment, VII Corps was to prove a challenge to the

engineer support assets. The 92nd was assigned under the 7th

Engineer Brigade, from Stuttgart, Germany, and attached to the

926th Engineer Group, a reserve unit from Montgomery, Alabama.

Over the next nine weeks, the 92nd distinguished itself with the

construction of a Corps Support Area (CSA) - Log Base Echo, a C-130

Forward Landing Strip (FLS), and many other missions associated

with our direct support relationship with the 3rd Armored Division.

These missions included construction of pipeline crossings, MsRs,

access roads, countermobility obstacles, grave site excavation, and

            extensive demolition support.

battalion base camp, 'Diamond Station 11', at the center of what

was to become LOG BASE ECHO, located some 200 miles from 'Diamond

Station I'. Initially, the greatest challenge was to move the

entire battalion using only battalion assets. With our heavy haul

shortage at 84 percent (13 heavy tractors on hand out of 28

authorized) our plan was to take 21 days and rely on numerous

shuttle trips. No heavy tractors were available from Corps as all

were committed to either animo and fuel haul or to moving the newly

arrived VII Corps units from the port. Some relief was received

from the 7th Engineer Brigade once the 92nd began receiving LOG
