digging pits for waste water, trash, and contaminated medical
waste. A 92nd soldier was wounded by shrapnel when a piece of
unexploded ordnance detonated. As the battle quickly and
successfully progressed, it became apparent that there would be no
need for another logistical base, and the battalion began to
consolidate its forces.
PHASE VI - Defense of Northern Kuwait
When the President declared Kuwait liberated and Iraq's army
defeated after 100 hours, the 92nd's focus was directed toward
supporting the defense of Northern Kuwait. While still in direct
support of the 3rd AD, the battalion.received missions to dig 30
Iraqi graves and construct 25 kms pf MSRs from the division's MSB
to the brigade FSBA. One of the most dangerous missions during the
92nd's deployment saw Bravo Company tasked to destroy in three
days, all known Iraqi equipment and vehicles within a 100 square
kilometer area. During this mission, a soldier was wounded when a
booby-trapped truck detonated. On 7 March, Charlie Company moved
into Kuwait with the mission to clear and grade MSR Blackbeard, an
important 62 km lateral route, from Iraq into Kuwait. A most
critical and hazardous area was the 20 kms of commercial highway,
which was cleared of destroyed civilian and military equipment.
Additionally, Charlie Company provided austainment engineering
support involving berm construction and a drainage system for
continued water supply operations, to a Well Drilling Detachment
(WPU), and a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU).
Charlie Company worked clos ely with an Explosive, Ordnance, and
