Tactical Reserves, and Destruction of
Republican Guard Force Corps
As H-hour of the offensive approached, the 92nd began
rehearsals of MSR construction and security procedures. Vertical
platoons trained on work site security, reaction to enemy contact,
and handling of EPWA. As the VII Corps began to breach the Iraqi
forward defenses, the 92nd was prepared for combat. The 92nd was
also tasked to provide assets to support the 2nd ACR with its berm
reduction mission along the Saudi-Iraqi border. Elements of Alpha
Company's Earthmoving platoon were prepared to open additional
passage lanes and observed the initial assault by the VII Corps.
MSR Burgandy was the main focus for the battalion, as the 3rd
AD could do little if their critical logistics - fuel and
ammunition, could not cross the Iraqi terrain. The 92nd departed
the FAA and crossed the LD into Iraq in column formation. The
battalion's column formation steadily shrank as first Alpha and
lastly Charlie companies dropped off along their respective sectors
of the MSR. HSC(-) continued on to Objective Collins with the 3rd
AD DISCOM and set up in their designated area. Each line company
maintained 40-50 kma of MSR, preparing to 'leapfrog' over
subsequent company sectors to its next work location. This would
continue until units reached the Objective Collins, where
logistical base support work would likely commence. During the
defeat of the tactical reserves and the destruction of the
Republican Guard Force, the 92nd extended MSR Burgandy 75 kma into
