             Div and six soldiers from the 7th Engr Bde during the deployment.

                  Mail. Units received mail from individual post offices which

             were distinguishable by their zip codes. Our unit kept the zip

             code of the 24th Inf Div throughout the deployment. Our post

             office moved three times during the deployment. As we moved

             further from our post office, our two mail clerks had to stay

             overnight at the post office. This schedule placed a large burden

             on our mail clerks, but we continued to receive regular mail.

                  PX. The S-1 was responsible for the setup and operation of a

             Post Exchange. Once a refrigerator van was contracted, the

             procedures were fairly easy. A weekly trip for resupply was made

             first to DammAn, then to XKMC after our move to Log Base Echo.

             This operation also provided soldiers the ability to cash checks.

             The lack of small change (i.e. nickels) caused us to round off each

             total to the nearest dime. In five months time, we had a $1900

             excess, which will be spent on soldiers' activities.

                  Awards. The individuals of the battalion were awarded 48


             Bronze Star Medals and 297 Army Commendation Medals from 3rd

             Armored Division and the 926th Engineer Group.
