           TO XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS FIELD SOP


           1. Purpose. The Medical Surveillance Report (MSREP) provides
           data necessary to monitor the health of the command, allow for
           early recognition of the use of biological agents by enemy
           forces, recognize diseases of epidemic potential from indigenous
           populations, and identify patterns of injury whose occurrence
           may be reduced by an increase in preventive measures.

           2. The report is submitted by all facilities providing Level I
           and 2 medical treatment. Reports will be consolidated by
           Division and separate Brigade Surgeons and senior medical
           command and control headquarters. Copies of subordinate unit
           reports will be submitted with the consolidated report.

           3. Weekly periods extend from Sunday to Saturday, with report
           due by courier the following Wednesday. Submit report to
           designated Preventive Medicine Epidemiology Team with a copy
           forwarded to XVIII Airborne Corps Surgeon.

           4. Instructions.

              a. Definition of categories used in the report:

                   (1) Orthopedic - Fractures, possible fractures,
           sprains, low back pain, dislocations, muscle strains, bunions,
           corns,"hedl-pain, etc.

                   (2) Trauma - Non-combat injuries not included above.
           Abrasions, lacerations, bruises, head injuries, animal bites,
           snake bites, etc.

                   (3) Diarrheal Disorders - Diarrhea (two or more
           unformed stools per day), nausea or vomiting, gastroenteritis,
           dysentery, gastritis, food poisoning.

                   (4) Respiratory Disease - URI'S, "colds", asthma,
           bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, runny noises, sinus
           infections, ear infections.

                   (5) Skin Conditions - Dermatitis (acne, heat rash,
           viral or bacterial rashes, fungal rashes), eczema, contact
           dermatitis), sunburn, blisters, insect bites, lice, moles,
           warts, etc.

                   (6) Psychiatric - Depression, situation reactions,
           anxiety, neurosis, psychotic reactions, suicide attempts,
           substance abuse.
