Analysis of 4—66 Armor's Battle Damage Incident:

        S a. At approxxmately 1200 hours, 27 February 1991, Task Force
(AR Hvy) (1st Dde) conducted an attack on an Iraqi theater
reserve anunition holding areas that was being defended by an
Iraqi Armor Battalion. The attack was part of a coordinated
brigade attack that had 1-35 AR (3d Ede) on the left and 4-66 AR
on the right. TF 4—65's Scout Platoon had the mission of
maintaining contact with 1—35 AR on the task force's left flank.

1,. Weather at the time of the attack consisted of light rain
and dense smoke from the burning ammunition dump. Visibility was
generally fair. The Division had excellent intelligence
pertaining to this position, as exact numbers and locations of
enemy positions had been derived from imagery, and validated by
earlier pre-planned CAS and APACHE strikes.

                      c. As TF 4—66 attacked, the lead company moved into an anti-
armor minefield causing the entire Task Force to momentarily
halt. 1-35 AR continued to move forward on the left, and 4-66
AR's Scout Platoon moved along with them in an effort to keep the
two units tied—in. At this point, the Scout Platoon became
engaged in a direct fire by the enemy's BlcPs and dis~ounted RPG
                  Teams.
