Analysis of 466 Armor's Battle Damage
a. At approxzmately 1200 hours, 27 February.1991, Task Force
4-66 (AR Evy) (1st Ede) conducted an attack on an Iraqi theater
reserve ammunition holding areas that was being defeiided by an
Iraqi Armor Battalion. The attack was part of a coordinated
brigade attack that had 1-35 AR (3d Dde) on the left and 4-66 AR
on the right. TY 466's Scout Platoon had the mission of
maintaining contact with 135 AR on the task force's left flank.
b. Weather at the time of the attack consisted of light rain
and dense smoke from the burning ammunition dump. Visibility was
generally fair. The Division had excellent intelligence
pertaining to this position, as exact numbers and locations of
enemy positions had been derived from imagery, and validated by
earlier pre-planned CAS and APACHE strikes.
a. As TF 466 attacked, the lead company moved into an anti
armor minefield causing the entire Task Force to momentarily
halt. 1-35 AR continued to ~nove forward on the left, and 4-66
AR's Scout Platoon moved along with them in an effort to keep the
two units tied-in. At this point, the Scout Platoon became
engaged in a direct fire by the enemy's BKPs and dismounted RPG
Teams.
