GEM SCHWARZKOPF (US): I think what we should do at the end of our
discussion we will show you this map and this line, and then we can
discuss the line

LTG AHMAD (I): Principally ~e have agreed that this is not. a
permanent line.

GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): It is `absolutely not a permanent line.

LTG AIlMAD (I): And this has nothing to do with any borders.

GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): It has-nothing to do with borders.

LTG MIMAD (I): Other than that we are ready to discuss and agree
upon

GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): Absolutely, I assure you it has nothing to do
with borders. It has nothing to do with permanent borders. It is
only a safety rneasure, and I also assure you we have no intention of
leaving our forces permanently in Iraqi territory once the cease-fire
is signed. But until that time we intend to remain where we are.

LTG AHMAD (I): After we have withdrawn from Kuwait and announced it
on the television and radio we did not hope or think that you would
step in the Iraqi territory.

GEN SCHWARZKOPF (US): Again, I am sure that is a subject I think the
General and I could discuss for many many hours as to how that
happened and to whether that was an announced withdrawal or not, but
don't think that's the purpose of our discussions.

bTG AHMAD (I): We are sure you know now how much we paid after we
announced the withdrawal on the radio and television, casualty wise I
mean -

GEM SCHWARZ~OPF (US): A lot of people paid with casualties for a very
long time; that is not the subject we are here to talk about now. I
think that we will leave that to history. I would also like to make
sure we don't accidentally shoot -

LTG AH~~AD (I): I have just mentioned this for history.

GEM SCHWARZKOPF (US): Again, history will be written long after you
and I are gone. I would also like to make sure that we do not
accidentally shoot down any innocent aircraft and I would also like to
make sure we do not accidentally sink any innocent ships. If no
military aircraft fly, we have control of the air over Iraq now we
know that, and we intend to keep that until the cease-fire is called.
But I think that if we can agree on radio frequencies to broadcast on
and perhaps a provision like landing lights to be turned on it will be
very clear that these aircraft have no hostile intent and therefore we
will not have an accidental engagement.

LTG AfiMAD (I): In this matter we will cooperate~ I would like to ask
a question. After the cease-fire and until it is signed, do you need
the aircraft or do you need any methods or ways so that your aircraft
