occupied hasty position at grid GS 769983 at 1630.
- 1455, CFL 4 in effect.
- 1500, H/3/11 discovered abandoned enemy artillery emplacmonts arid
bunkers near its position at grid OT 768018.
- 1500, In preparation for the attack on G-2, 11th Marines organization
for combat was modified. 3/11 remained in direct support of TF Ripper.
3/12 mission changed to reinforce 3/11. 5/11 mission changed to GS,
priority'of calls for fire to TF Shepherd. 1/11 mission changed to GS,
with instructions to follow in trace of and alongside TF Papa Bear as
they move north with an 0/0 mission direct support to support TF Papa
Bear when they are committed. 1/12 mission changed to direct support
of TF Xray/Taro and tasked to provide a dedicated battery to TF
Grizzly.
- 1530, During security patrol of Iraqi bunkers near 1/11 firing
position, a Marine from 'H" 3/14 stepped on a mine at grid OT 811035
and was seriously injured. An urgent helo Medevac was immediately
requested, the helo arrived at 1645, evacuating the 1/11 Marine and
3 Marines from TF Ripper. The 1/11 Marine subsequently died.
- 1530, 3/12 began displacement through 2d obstacle belt to firing
positions designated by 3/11 near grid OT 8002 with entire Battalion
firecap ready at 1855; mission reinforcing 3/11.
- 1600 1/11 reoriented to azimuth of fire 630e, in support of TF Papa
Bear s movement north to assembly area.
- 1730 'G' 3/11 received incoming artillery fire; 2 WIA and slight
dama;e to one truck and trailer reported. Casualties treated at 3/11
BAS.
- 1738' Various units report incoming artillery gas attack; units go.to
MOPP-4. After negative detection, all clear is sounded at 1755.
- 1815, CFL 4 cancelled.
- 1820, 1 3/14, received incoming indirect fire; no casualties.
- 1859, 5/11 fired illumination rounds in support of TF Grizzly clearing
of Al Jaber Airfield. During these missions, 3/11 Batteries were
briefly illuminated.
- 1911, 3/11 reports possible gas attack; units go to MOPP-4. TF Ripper
Fox vehicle reports detecting "Blister Agent Lewisite" at 1918. At
2030, Division reported that Blister Agent was false alarm. Units
return to MOPP-1.
- 2024, 'A' 1/12 displaced through 2d obstacle belt and occupied firing
position at grid OS 795957 to provide dedicated support to TF Grizzly.
- 2145, Division Operations officer issued Frag Order for attack on
Kuwait International Airport on G-2.
2245, 11th Marines Frag Order issued for attack on I MEF obj C, Kuwait
International Airport. 3/11 and 3/12 will leapfrog by Battalion in
western portion of TF Ripper's zone; 3/11 in direct support of TF
Ripper, 3/12 reinforcing 3/11. 1/11 will displace by echelon up a
corridor between the 77 and 79 easting grid lines in general support,
prepared to assume 0/0 mission direct support of TF Papa Bear when it
is committed. 5/11 will displace by echelon in western zone of TF
Shepherd's zone in general support, priority calls for fire to TF
Shepherd. 1/12 will remain in direct support of TF Xray/Taro with a
