   Shortly after midnight, Task Force Grizzly marched to positions near the
first mineficid. Artillery fire from the 3d Battalion, 12th Marines, and the 5th
Battalion, 11th Marines, covered Task Force Grizzly's movement and a second
effort by the reconnaissance platoon to find a path through the minefield.9'
Again the niinefieid proved impenetrable and Colonel Fulks withdrew the
platoon just before dawn as the forward elements of Task Force Grizzly arrived
