C All air delivered ordnance short of the FSCL will be
controlled by -the ground commander (see coordinating
instructions).
d. Close in fire support, CIFS, will employ massed AH-lW
Cobras with a FAC(A) and will focus towards blunting enemy
counterattacks, protecting the flanks, and engaging
hard/point targets in close.
3. COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS
a. When conducting air to ground operations commanders will:
(1) Provide or coordinate required supporting fires and
adequate suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD).
(2) Ensure aircraft run in headings will normally be
parallel to the front line of troops.
(3) Provide battle damage assessments (BDA's) to this
headquarters on designated Intel Nets.
b. Marking of friendlies: Daylight - orange/red panels
Night - red light directed up
and to the rear/away from
the enemy
C. Forward air controller airborne (FAC(A)) procedures:
(1) FAC(A) will be utilized whenever possible.
(2) Coordinate with the FAC(A) to brief CAS flights.
(3) FAC(A) coordinated fires short of the FSCL will
be terminally controlled by the ground commander.
d. Positive clearance is normally required prior to any
release of ordnance.
e. R@asvnable assurance i4s allowed during combat operations
only when positive clearance would effectively stifle CAS
operations. Under this concept, targets may be engaged
only if the terminal controller, ground commander, and
aircrew have reasonable assurance that the resulting
attack will not inflict casualties on friendly forces.
Reasonable assurance will be executed only under the
following circumstances: i .
(1) Aircraft providing support is a Marine aircraft.
